Establishment of the ITS Society Nagoya Chapter

Since the mid 1990s, research and development related to ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) and ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle) have been actively promoted. In recent years, driver assistance systems with autonomous sensors such as collision mitigation braking systems and lane keeping assist systems are becoming more widely used along with a reduction in price of sensors and the improvement of environmental recognition technology. In addition, with the enhancement of communication infrastructure and the spread of communication devices such as smartphones, the practical application of infrastructure-coordinated driver assistance systems and transportation systems aimed at optimizing energy efficiency is progressing.

These technologies and systems are expected to achieve safe, secure, and comfortable traffic society systems and reduce traffic accidents. However, further system proposals and technological development are required, and research and development in this field will also be enhanced in the future. In particular, many automobile-related companies and research institutes are concentrated in the Chubu region, so you will find many research contributions from these institutions in academic societies and journal papers.

The IEEE ITS Society Nagoya Chapter was established in order to provide a space for researchers, developers, and users in the fields of ITS and ASV, (not only in the Chubu region but also around the world) , where they can actively discuss and share their ideas, research issues and results, and needs, and to contribute towards the safer, more secure and comfortable use of automobiles and transportation systems. Specifically, we will continue to organize conferences, technical tours, and seminars, and also co-sponsor related events with other research organizations. We hope collaboration between research institutes, researchers, and developers will be promoted through our activities, and research and business activities in this region will become even more active by producing and outreaching world-leading research results from the Chubu region.
